Every year, some 33,000 women decide to have an abortion in the Netherlands. 14% of them come from other European countries. CASA provides these women with support in its clinics, which have experienced doctors and nurses as well as well-equipped facilities for surgical treatment. At CASA we give all our clients personal care and attention.
Half of the abortions performed in the Netherlands are done in the first 7 weeks of pregnancy. Most of these involve women aged 20-24. Only 5% of the abortions are carried out in hospitals – the other 95% are done at clinics.
The Netherlands has 16 abortion clinics. CASA is the largest organisation, with 5 clinics in the west and south of the country. Most clients from abroad are treated in the clinics in Leiden, The Hague or Maastricht. Which clinic you go to depends on your stage of pregnancy.
CASA offers personal care. After 5 days of considering their decision, clients can make an appointment to have the treatment in 1 day. This starts with a consultation in which we explain the procedure and give some information about contraception. An ultrasound scan is then done to check how far pregnant the client is. The pregnancy can be terminated by a curettage with a local anaesthetic or a general anaesthetic. A check-up is necessary 3 weeks later. This can be done at the CASA clinic or by a GP.
