having an abortion

Making an appointment and 5 days to consider your decision
Y
ou may have become pregnant when it wasn’t your intention. The first thing you’ll need to do is to talk to a doctor in your area. According to Dutch law, a pregnancy may only be terminated 5 days after you’ve talked to a health professional (a doctor).

If possible, it’s advisable to have an ultrasound done by the doctor. You will then know exactly how far pregnant you are. It may be important to know that when you make your appointment with CASA.

Don’t make an appointment with CASA before speaking to a doctor in your own country. And wait until you’ve made your appointment before booking your trip to the Netherlands. Also make sure you confirm your appointment before you leave home. If you don’t do that, you may find you have to make a new appointment and this will make the procedure more expensive.

Below the age of 16
Women who are 16 or older can make their own decision about having an abortion. For girls below the age of 16, one of her parents will be asked to give permission. If this isn’t possible, other arrangements can be made. In that case, discuss this with the clinic first.
